3.6.6.2 Analysis

The fruits of nutmeg were made into 2 spices, the nutmeg from the actual seed and mace from the dried covering or arillus of the seed. The quantities of mace exported appeared to be irregular. It increased during the first few years up to year 2003 and  decreased thereafter.. It picked up  and reached its maximum in year 2006 with a value of 31,901.7 kg. after which it decreased again. . Similarly, the profile for the revenues obtained followed the same trend f as that of the quantities exported.

Price per kg of mace product exported as compared to that being imported, initially showed a negative difference  however, from year 2001 to 2007 the values were positive. The differences indicated that Malaysia  acted as a transit point in this trade and that the traders had committed supplies to clients, Malaysian traders profited from this activity. Generally, differences in the export-import unit price showed irregular increase during the observed period.
